Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently with the President Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
